Gas Steam Boiler Operation Guide: Four Key Steps for Safe and Efficient Performance
Operating a gas steam boiler requires strict adherence to safety protocols, as even minor negligence can lead to serious consequences. This guide outlines a proven standard operating procedure compliant with TSG G0001-2012 Boiler Safety Technical Regulations.
Step 1: Pre-Start Inspection – Ensure Safety Before Ignition
Before startup, conduct a comprehensive inspection: verify water level is within the normal range, pressure gauge returns to zero, and the safety valve is intact. Pay special attention to gas system leak detection by applying foam solution to all joints and valves. Past incidents have shown that skipping this step can lead to gas leaks and accidents. Also, check the soft water system to ensure water quality meets ASME standards.
Step 2: Ignition – Follow Strict Procedures for a Smooth Start
Start the induced draft fan for at least five minutes to purge any combustible gases from the furnace. Ignite the pilot burner first and confirm stable operation before gradually opening the main gas valve. Monitor the flame color: a proper flame should be bright blue. If the flame flickers or unusual sounds occur, shut down the boiler immediately for inspection.
Step 3: Operation Monitoring – Stay Alert for Stable Performance
Maintaining the correct water level is critical: too low can cause severe damage, too high affects steam quality. Operating pressure must never exceed the rated working pressure. Regular blowdown is essential to prevent scaling—keep each blowdown under 30 seconds. Failure to perform blowdowns can cause serious efficiency loss, as seen in industrial cases where efficiency dropped by 10%.
Step 4: Shutdown – Follow an Orderly and Documented Process
For normal shutdown, gradually reduce load, close the gas valve, and stop water supply after pressure falls below 0.1 MPa. In emergencies, immediately cut off the gas supply and apply rapid cooling measures. Always record the shutdown details, including time, reason, and operator information.
Proper operation is the foundation of safe and efficient boiler performance. If you encounter issues during operation, Contact our technical team is available to provide professional guidance and support.
